Your health and the health of those you love matters to us!

Monthly Preventive Focus:

Community Wellness

  • Many studies have indicated that our health is better when we have community.

  • Community combats isolation and has been linked to lower mortality risk, better self-rated health, and improved mental well-being.

  • We were all made to live in community to help each other live our best lives.

Introducing:

Wellness Foundations Community Events

I am honored to get to serve you and your family as your physician. As Open Hands DPC has continued to grow, we have reached a point that requires some changes in order to help serve as many people as possible and provide access to the open conversations and recommendations we all love and know. I strive to walkout the healthy choices we discuss together and as such, maintaining margin and prioritizing first things first means coming up with new ways to serve those in need to whom I can’t offer primary care services. Enter - Wellness Foundations Community Events! These events will offer a boiled down version of my years of study and practice in Osteopathy and genuine functional medicine that combine medical knowledge, nutritional/lifestyle recommendations and biblical wisdom in an affordable way. This will also establish a solid foundation of nutrition and lifestyle habits that must be coupled with steps toward wellness. If you (or loved ones) have wondered about addressing stress, eating well, moving better, or even if the “wonder-meds” GLP-1 and GLP-1/GIP shots can really fit into your life - and had a hard time finding a space to safely and responsibly talk about it - these events are made for you!

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.
— Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Can a GLP be done well?

We can now offer affordable access to GLP-1 Injections for weight management!

In conjunction with the information shared during the Wellness Foundations Events, the past year has given rise to a piloted project in which I have seen healthy, maintainable weight loss achieved in patients of various ages, medical history and gender. This has given rise to the ability to guide individualized dosing of a compounded injection of tirzepatide with B12. The foundations learned at the community events will establish the necessary building blocks to achieve and maintain weight loss and improved wellness in people that can safely use these medications. To encourage healthy and sustainable use of these powerful medications with the goal of weaning off over time, the Wellness Foundations class is an entry requirement to then be schedule for a weight management visit (for current members) or consult (for non-members).

Since you are a member, I wanted to give a more detailed layout of the program and goals:

  1. Attend a Wellness Foundations event (or two or three) to gain confidence in the necessary building blocks of rest, protein, hydration and probiotics to be setup for success.

  2. For many, the steps from the Wellness Foundations is enough to start and maintain healthy weight management. However, for those that are not seeing success after 2-4 weeks more workup may be necessary. I will offer tele-med visits to you as normal based on your membership level and we can discuss labs, adjustments to the plan based on more in-depth specifics and the potential for appropriateness of adding tirzepatide/b12. For non-members, consultations over the phone will be scheduled based on availability at rate of $45. Labs can be obtained with me for members and non-members alike at my low-cost-lab pricing or those that have another PCP can choose to take those recommendations and discuss with their PCP.

  3. If the steps above result in tirzepatide/b12 being an appropriate next step, an in-person visit will be scheduled to direct the first dose being given and further review lab results. As a compounded medication, it legally must be dispensed by the pharmacy for a specific patient (I cannot get a bulk order and give it to patients as appropriate). As such, these in-person visits will be scheduled as follows:

    • Members - $250 includes instruction on how to draw up and deliver the weekly dose and the needed supplies for at least 4 additional doses. This results in at least 5 total doses. If your individualized dose is appropriate to be less than 2mg weekly, the vial of medication will last longer making each individual dose cheaper. Once an effective dose is established, follow ups can be via telemed text visits (included with premium membership or $15 each for basic membership levels). Additionally, once an established dose is found the medication can be ordered in such a way as to make the weekly dose price between $17-$33 a dose based upon the patients in the pilot program.

    • Non-Member Consults - $300 includes instruction on how to draw up and deliver the weekly dose and the needed supplies for at least 4 additional doses. This results in at least 5 total doses. If their individualized dose is appropriate to be less than 2mg weekly, the vial of medication will last longer making each individual dose cheaper. Once an effective dose is established, follow ups can be via telemed text visits ($25). Additionally, once an established dose is found the medication can be ordered in such a way as to make the weekly dose price between $17-$33 a dose based upon the patients in the pilot program.

Dose, nutrition and lifestyle adjustments will then be made with tele-med follow ups and refills of the medications as necessary for individualized dosing.

It has been amazing to see how effective this medication has been when given at micro-doses that are individualized which can only be achieved through the use of the compounded form of the medication. Additionally, this gives freedom to help control unhealthy habits and patterns while still allowing natural signaling from the brain to be heard and appropriately addressed. It is not a “miracle drug” and is not appropriate for everyone. However, it is a quality tool that can be used safely and effectively like many other medications and supplements. As such, I am glad to be able to offer this in a responsible and affordable way to you my members and any friends or family members you have that are interested in this as an option.
