Our Story

“Growing up in Eastern Kentucky, I had a front row seat to what it truly means to be medically “underserved”. It is not simply a matter of too few doctors. It is so much deeper. Even if you get to see a doctor, but can’t understand them or they can’t understand you - quality medical care has not taken place. Add to that the ever increasing confusion around the cost of medical treatment and there quickly becomes a breakdown of actually accessing care. Since I was 15 and saw my Papaw (that’s grandfather for those of you not from Appalachia) hospitalized 3 separate times due to these very communication breakdowns, I knew I wanted to be part of the solution if God would allow me the opportunity. He opened that door through what was then PCSOM - now UPIKE KYCOM - and their vision for increasing the number of physicians in Eastern Kentucky and similarly underserved, rural areas. While in residency I was introduced to the idea of a direct primary care and instantly saw how it could benefit the very people I became a physician to help. Open Hands DPC - so named because I have my hands open to God’s provision, my hands open for a proverbial handshake contracting directly with my patients and open to show there are no secret bills looming - gives people the chance to experience old-school medicine in a whole new way. I’m excited to offer people transparent options that lead to quality care they can trust and choose for themselves.”
